Huawei Ascend P1 now available at Safaricom Shops

The Huawei Ascend P1, one of the slimmest droids in the market, is now available at Safaricom shops. Packed with computing power courtesy of the 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the Ascend P1 will be retailing at around 43,000 Kshs.

Considered one of Huawei’s flagships in its growing Android portfolio, the Ascend P1 boasts of a 7.7 mm thin body, packing a PowerVR SGX540 graphics that should run the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS considerably smooth.

Other features of the Ascend P1 include:

  • Quand-band GSM and penta-band 3G with HSPa support
  • Android OS v4.0 ICS
  • 4.3” 16M-color capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen, 540 x 960 pixel resolution
  • Two homescreen options, vanilla and 3D
  • 4GB ROM and a 1GB RAM
  • 8 MP camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging
  • microSD slot
  • Wi-fi support, hotspot
  • GPS with A-GPS
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack, Dolby Mobile 3.0 +

The Ascend does not have a dedicated camera key, and does not support video calling (out of the box).

The Chinese have proved that they do not just grow the droids but refine them as well. The Ascend P1 comes to the Kenyan market at a time when Samsung SIII and the HTC One X are struggling to move numbers.

Will Huawei make a dent on Samsung and HTC’s share of the already competitive smartphone market in Kenya?

Does HTC even have a tangible share in the market? I would assume LG comes second after Samsung among Droids.

From the figures Safaricom quoted for the number of Huawei IDEOs in their network, I would say Huawei is not doing bad either. Don’t forget the Y100 also gave them some numbers.
