End of life devices at Safaricom and their replacements

Safaricom is in the process of clearing stocks of various phones in preparation for the launch and entry into the market of newer versions of the specific devices.

This will also mean that the said phones might be put on offer, like the on-going clearance sale. Some of the phones that will soon run out at the safaricom shops include:

LG Optimus One P500 – This smart entry category android device will be replaced by the LG Optimus Pro C660 that was released late last year. the Pro C660 will come shipped with Android OS v2.3.3 and has both a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen. It will be available in black and the price is yet to be disclosed.

Blackberry 9300 – You have probably noticed that this phone is retailing at a reduced price of Kshs 23,599/-, and at the rate its moving at, it will soon be out of stock. Its replacement will be the Blackberry 9360, a fully touch with a QWERTY keyboard. It comes shipped with the new Blackberry OS 7.0.

Blackberry 9790 will be replacing the Bold 9780. The Bold 9790 has a QWERTY keyboard and a TFT touchscreen. It has the new Blackberry 7.0 OS and is NFC capable (though this will depend on the specific carrier). The 9790 also has an on-board memory of 8GB.

The Torch 9810 is set to replace the Blackberry 9800 which is currently retailing at around Kshs 46,000/-. The Torch 9810 also comes with the new Blackberry 7.0 OS and an 8GB internal memory.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket which I talked about here could be a possible replacement for the Galaxy Mini though I will confirm once the information is available. The pocket has hit the market and is retailing at Kshs 9,999/-.

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus will be replaced by the all new Galaxy SIII which was released just this month in some regions. The Africa launch should be in Nairobi soon.

The Huawei Ideos (U8150) has already sold out. Huawei is planning to launch a more improved, more powerful device to replace the Ideos.

The Huawei U8860 Honor is also set to be launched by Huaawei via Safaricom.
