Setting up Blackberry Internet Service on a Safaricom Line

The following steps will help you verify if your Blackberry device can be used with Safaricom’s BIS.

Note: This test is best done with a Safaricom line that is already active (subscribes to the service)

First, Insert the SIM card into the Blackberry Device and Power On

Scroll to the Options icon

Under the Options menu, scroll down to Device and click on it

Then scroll down to Advanced System Settings and click on it to open

Scroll down and select TCP IP

Check the box against ‘APN Settings Enabled’

Enter the APN as blackberry.net  (leave username and password blank)

Go back one step and save the changes made

Scroll up to the Host Routing Table and select it

On the first option in bold, select options and choose Register Now

On the first option in bold, select options and choose Register Now

A registration message will be sent to your device

Your Blackberry device is now ready to access the service.

Note:

Use the ‘Browser’ icon shown below, and not the Safaricom Wap one as that will charge you out of the subscription

If the Host Routing Table is blank, chances are that your device will not access the service

To activate the Blackberry service with Safaricom, send a blank sms to 210 (you must have a balance of more than one thousand bob)
